Hemochromatosis Write for Us

Hemochromatosis Write for UsHemochromatosis Write for Us – Hemochromatosis is a disorder associated with excess iron deposits that cause multiple organ dysfunction. Iron absorption usually is tightly regulated because the body cannot excrete excess iron. Hemochromatosis occurs when there are pathologically high levels of iron buildup in the body. Hemochromatosis is called “bronze diabetes” because of the discoloration of the skin and associated diseases of the pancreas.

Hereditary hemochromatosis is the most common autosomal recessive disorder in whites. Infections of erythropoiesis and disease treatment with blood transfusions cause secondary hemochromatosis. After transport, macrophages damage red blood cells, and iron burned from heme builds up in the body. Secondary hemochromatosis is mainly caused by thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, hereditary spherocytosis, iron chromosome-linked blastomycosis, and pyruvate kinase deficiency.

Symptoms and Causes

As harmful levels of iron accumulate, hemochromatosis can cause symptoms that include feeling tired or weak, joint pain, loss of interest in sex or erectile dysfunction, abdominal pain above the liver, and skin darkening. Genetic mutations cause the most common type of hemochromatosis.

Personified

Doctors diagnose hemochromatosis based on blood tests to check levels of iron and specific proteins in the blood and to check for genetic mutations that commonly cause hemochromatosis. In some cases, doctors may also use a liver biopsy to confirm the presence of excess iron.

Treatment

Treating hemochromatosis can improve symptoms and prevent complications. Doctors usually treat hemochromatosis with phlebotomy or drawing a pint of blood at a time regularly. This is the most direct and safest way to reduce iron stores in the body.

Eating, diet, and nutrition

If you have hemochromatosis, you must follow a healthy, balanced diet. Your doctor may recommend avoiding raw shellfish, avoiding iron and vitamin C supplements, and limiting alcohol. If you have cirrhosis, you should completely stop drinking alcohol.
